SOME MORE COFFEE

What's on the counter

Gear

Four ways to make coffee and one grinder. More than one kitchen strictly needs โ€” which is exactly why there's something to compare.

Nespresso Original

Nespresso Original

Came with the flat. Forces water through the capsule under high pressure โ€” classic capsule espresso. Fast, quiet, predictable.

Nespresso Vertuo

Nespresso Vertuo

A gift. Spins the capsule and reads a barcode on the rim to set the volume. That's why the cup is bigger and foamier even at 230 ml.

AeroPress

AeroPress

Fits in a bag. Hand-pressed through a paper filter: the cleanest, brightest cup in the house when the beans are fresh. Takes time and attention.

Hand grinder and beans

Hand grinder

Slower than I'd like, but it's what makes the comparisons fair: the same grind of the same fresh beans into both the capsule and the AeroPress.

Why this matters for the notes

The method changes the cup as much as the bean does. Pressure gives body and crema, a paper filter gives clarity and acidity, the volume of water sets the strength. So every note records not just which coffee, but exactly how it was made, at what water temperature, and in what ratio.
